I'm at the Annual Conference of the Regulatory Policy Institute. Listening to Tony Curzon Price of the UK’s government department BEIS. He says it doesn’t matter how much you favour deregulation in general, it is inevitable that there will soon be economic regulation of data.
I’m sure he’s right but the challenges, stakes and risks are huge.
Companies hold large amounts of data about consumers and their use of particular products and services. Too often this data works against consumers rather than for them...We want to end this information asymmetry so that consumers can use their own data to get the best deals and drive competition.
